Could It Be?

Thanks to an impassioned facebook message from none other than Dan Press...the founders of Washington Squares are currently in talks to bring back everyone's favorite trivia game. Stay tuned for details, and see whether we're going to continue from where we left off or start a new game completely.

Brief Hiatus

Washington Squares is on pause for a bit, while I work my crazy 18-hour-a-day summer job and Tracy works on moving to a different city. Your patience is greatly appreciated during this difficult time.

Game #12- additional information

1. When I said "Melissa was successful in finding the answer, so it's not too hard." I didn't mean that Melissa is dumb, making the game easy. I meant that since she got the answer, we felt it wasn't too hard to put up as a game. Sorry, Mel.

2. Allen Ginsberg's name is spelled 2 different ways. We realize this and felt the 2 spellings were necessary. That's all you're getting.

Game #9 Results

Game #9 Answer: Websites that Tracy visits every day, The top 9 websites on Tracy's browser history, Tracy's most visited websites, etc...

Game #9 Results:

Mike Chin- 3
Mark Agosta- 1
Nate Gardner- 1
Kristen Meiss- 1
Todd Quick- 1

Funniest Answer:

Nate Gardner- The websites one or both of the proprietors of Washington Squares visit most often, or have bookmarked (my suspicion is that they're Tracy's, but I can't determine that for certain). And yes, I know this is much later than my usual response, but I was off not getting laid at a national professional conference. Which wouldn't be so bad, had the profession not been roughly 75% female.

and...

Mark Agosta- Even though I am officially under protest to this game because of its content, I must answer, because my desire to win largely outweighs my principles, just like with the Chipmunks. Anywho, these are the top nine websites on Miss Helf's internet browser history on her computer. That doesn't include the porn though. OH MAN the porn. Like dudesdoindudesdungeondingodixiestyle.gov. That's one of her favorites, I believe because of the pretty textured-looking backround. Or because of the hot guy-on-guy action. One of those. Now, while I did have direct access to the source of this answer, I didn't need it, or use it before I got the answer. However, I sympathize with those who don't know Tracy enough to get this. Again, though, sympathy not as important as points.

Valient Effort:

No one! Everyone who tried got it right. Those that didn't play this week suck.

WS unfortunately bids farewell to one of our most devoted fans this week. Dana Wise spent many weeks atop our leaderboard back in 2003-2004, but has since decided to respectfully withdraw from the game. We still love you, B, and will forever remember the three points you scored during the WS Revival.

While consulting our awesome scoring spreadsheet, it appears that we have given out the winning 3 points to the same person more than once. Therefore, I believe an additional new rule should be...3 points to anyone who is the ONLY person to answer the game correctly. Woot.

It is too bad I didn't have any of those speakers at my Commencement in 2001. Yeah thanks SU...we were supposed to have Robin Williams...that is what one of the commencement speaker committee members told me and who did we have...oh wait I can't seem to remember the name of the lame astronaut that graduated from SU in 1979...the year that most of us were born...that is all I remember...because the speech left such a huge impression on my freshly graduated mind. Who spoke at commencements to follow...let's see...Former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Former President Clinton, Claire Huxtable from The Cosby Show's Phylicia Rashad, Jane Goodall and Billy Joel. Sing me a song you're the piano man freakin' Billy Joel...correct me if I am wrong sang at commencement.

Google fun

I'm sure you've all done this before:

You're sitting at work wondering what to do and you start typing your name into google.com. Depending on what you've accomplished in your short but sweet lifetime, you might actually get a link to something that mentions you and not some famous historian from NYU or Beijing. After you've gotten bored tying in all versions of your name, you go to your family and friends'. The next step is to type in people you've dated, hoping, of course, to find that they've since been arrested for having sex with underage hookers. When this fails, you move to anyone else you can think of. Old teacher, bosses, High School enemies, Father Smith from The Holy Baptist Church of New England, etc...

Last week, Melissa e-mailed Dana Wise and I regarding one of these common endeavors. She was doing research and ended up typing Dr. Tagg's name into Wikipedia. (Try it...it's hilarious if you know Dr. Tagg) Dana and I proceeded to type in everyone we knew and had some fun exchanging e-mails between the 3 of us for an afternoon.

Well, Dana just informed me that she wasn't quite done, and started typing WS players into google. One of you is lucky enough to have your name match 3 out of your first 6 results to this fantastic blog! Is it you? Google it up and find out...

Rule Clarification Part Deux

We've also decided that since our first Rule Revision (you are only allowed a bonus 2 points for being the first correct answer once throughout the game...or until we change our minds), it's only fair for those who suggest a game that we cannot answer to receive 3 points, instead of the originally stated 5.

Got all that? We're working on it, Nate.

Dear Washington Squares (TM) Interactive Online Game Scoring & Regulation Executive Committee,

Please accept the following statement as my submission to the aforementioned Game #2 of Washington Squares (TM).

Answer: Nine international game shows closely resembling/replicating that of Deal or No Deal. In fact, the first episode of Deal or No Deal occurred in in 1843 when lowly Georgian plantation owners would choose from 26 small frigates packed with varying numbers of slaves. The show proceeded to go underground when Abraham Lincoln decided only he should be allowed to legally own slaves. The shows producers then moved the operations abroad where human rights were less of a hindrance.

Rule Revision...

...also known as If Ye Bitch, Ye Shall Receive...Maybe...If We Feel Like It.

It has been brought to our attention that the "first response gets 2 extra points" provision is discriminatory against those who don't have access to a computer on Sundays. Since WS aims to be an Equal Opportunity Interactive Online Game (EOIOG), we have taken this complaint into serious consideration and determined the following:

Each player will have the opportunity to win an extra 2 points only ONCE throughout the duration of the game...or until we decide otherwise. Therefore, Nicole Sullivan will not be able to win the extra 2 points until we feel that it's time to rewrite the rule yet again.

In the meantime, keep those responses coming. It's hilarious how many responses to Game #2 have already referenced the SU Women's Choir.

Rules and Regulations

The History:
Tracy and Melissa lived in Washington Arms on the Syracuse University campus during the 2003-2004 academic year. Along with American Idol wine cooler nights and a Spongebob-themed bathroom, their apartment hosted 9 interlocking cubes.

Tracy and Melissa decided that their friends needed more excitement in their lives. In a moment of sheer brilliance, they developed Washington Squares, an interactive online game in which people compete each week to guess the relationship of the 9 items listed.

The Game:
We will list nine items in a random order. Each of these items are related in some way. For example, if the items included 'Help!', 'One', and 'Straight Up,' the answer would be 'Songs Performed by the Syracuse University Mandarins'. Some games will be easier than others. Some games may require insider knowledge as to how the creators' minds work. Some games will be solved simply by using Google.

The Rules:
Anyone can play Washington Squares. New games will be posted every Sunday. All answers must be submitted by Friday at noon.

All answers must be submitted to washingtonsquares@gmail.com. Do not be a dumbass and post your responses on the blog itself.

If we don't recognize your email address and therefore have no idea who you may be, we can't post you on our leaderboard. Please do not email us from cutegrrlOMG69@yahoo.com and expect us to know who you are.

The game's answers will be posted once all submissions are received.

The Scoring:
Players can score up to 3 points for each correct answer. The first person to email us with the correct response will receive 2 points. Every correct answer throughout the week will receive 1 point.

The Valiant Effort award will go to the best incorrect answer of the week, as determined by WS staff.

The funniest answer of the week will win an award as well. It will also have some sort of title once we can think of one. Any ideas?

If you are feeling bold enough to create your own game, please send us an email. If neither member of the WS team can figure it out, you will receive 5 points and placement as one of the weekly games.

The Wrap-up:
As in the past, we will post any funny IMs or comments we receive along with the game's answers. You may post your own thoughts, comments and suggestions right on our site throughout the week. Trash-talking is highly encouraged.

Past players of Washington Squares have gone on to do incredible things, including securing positions at firms in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C. Others have made new friends and even started relationships with those they met on the Washington Squares leaderboard.

The game will continue as long as there is interest and active participation.

Here's to hoping you meet that special someone,
Marashfo

Blog layout/Welcome message

I did some work on the visual cohesiveness of our Washington Squares blog. Melissa gave me a few suggestions, and we both like the Syracuse colors, but I want to know what our fans think...

This is all for you...the players, friends, and lovers of Washington Squares. So, relax and take a look around our new site. Let us know what you want to see. Odds are we won't change anything, but at least we'll know what you want.

Check back for more notes from the developers of your favorite game as well as the new rules and awards. Our projected launch date is Sunday, April 1st. Share this game with your family, friends and significant others...anyone can play Washington Squares, but only the smartest, fastest and wittiest will win! (Which will leave about 97% of you with nothing.)

Good luck to your mom,
T$
