Rules and Regulations 2020

The History:
Tracy and Melissa lived in Washington Arms on the Syracuse University campus during their senior year. Along with American Idol wine cooler nights and a Spongebob-themed bathroom, their apartment hosted 9 interlocking cubes.

Tracy and Melissa decided that their friends needed more excitement in their lives. In a moment of sheer brilliance, they developed Washington Squares, an interactive online game in which people compete to guess the relationship of the 9 items listed.

The Game:
We will list nine items in a random order. Each of these items are related in some way.  Some games will be easier than others. Some games may require insider knowledge as to how the creators' minds work. Some games will be solved simply by using Google.

Here is a sample game:

1. tofu
2. salad
3. cheese
4. yogurt
5. beans
6. wine
7. tea
8. rice
9. pasta

The correct answer to this game is Food/Drink Mentioned in 'La Vie Boheme', from the musical RENT.  There may be other answers, but this is the answer we want.  It's our game.

The Rules:
Anyone can play Washington Squares. New games will be posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the New York State quarantine. All answers must be submitted by the next game day at noon EST.  (So Monday's answers are due by Wednesday, Wednesday's by Friday, Friday's you have all weekend to figure out.)

All answers must be submitted to washingtonsquares@gmail.com. Do not be a dumbass and post your responses on the blog itself.  It is especially helpful if you put the game # in the subject line of your email.

If we don't recognize your email address and therefore have no idea who you may be, we can't post you on our leaderboard. Please do not email us from quarantinabelcher@gmail.com and expect us to know who you are.

The game's answers will be posted once all submissions are received.

The Scoring:
Players can score 1, 3 or 5 points for a correct answer. Every player with the correct answer will receive 1 point. The first person to email us with the correct response will receive 2 additional points*. If only one person answers the game correctly, that person will receive 5 points.

All WS players are allowed to e-mail as many guesses as desired within the time frame of each game. However, the WS staff will not tell you if you have guessed correctly until the game is over.

The Valiant Effort award will go to the best incorrect answer of the game, as determined by WS staff.

The Funniest Answer award will go to the funniest answer of the game, as determined by WS staff.

Please note that you may only win the first correct answer 3 points once during a tournament.  However, a person who has already won the 3 points can still answer first and block others from being first.

The Wrap-up:
As in the past, we may post any comments we receive along with the game's answers. You may post your own thoughts, comments and suggestions right on our site throughout the week. Trash-talking is highly encouraged.

Past players of Washington Squares have gone on to do incredible things, including securing positions in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C. We hope that you too become something great when you grow up.

We will re-evaluate every few weeks, much like a governor during a global health pandemic.

Stay home,
Marashfo

New Decade, New Look

Turns out our previous look was maybe the most painful thing ever for my old lady eye strain, so apologies to those of you expecting our regular orange and blue.

But don't worry, the Washington Squares spirit LIVES ON!

In preparation for tomorrow's kickoff, expect another post today with the RULES OF THE GAME, mostly because T-$ and I don't remember them either. We look forward to resurrecting the most important blog-based internet game of our time for you THIS April 1st!
