Game #8 Results

WS unfortunately bids farewell to one of our most devoted fans this week. Dana Wise spent many weeks atop our leaderboard back in 2003-2004, but has since decided to respectfully withdraw from the game. We still love you, B, and will forever remember the three points you scored during the WS Revival.

While consulting our awesome scoring spreadsheet, it appears that we have given out the winning 3 points to the same person more than once. Therefore, I believe an additional new rule should be...3 points to anyone who is the ONLY person to answer the game correctly. Woot.

Game #8 Results:
Todd Quick - 3

Funniest Answer(s):
Nate Gardner and Merideth Maclain

Game #7 Results

With a hint and many references to "A Mother's Heart", here are the results of last week's game.

Game #7 Answer: 2007 Commencement Speakers/People Receiving Honorary Degrees

1. Bill Cosby (Carnegie Mellon)
2. Oprah Winfrey (Howard University)
3. Ted Koppel (USC)
4. Maya Angelou (Bennett College)
5. Madeline Albright (University of North Carolina)
6. Bill Gates (Harvard)
7. Wynton Marsalis (NYU)
8. Laura Bush (Pepperdine)
9. Bill Clinton (University of Michigan)

There are other schools that some of these speakers are visiting, but we're too lazy to list them all. Todd and Dan proved how super smart they are by listing all of them...but we're also too lazy to cut and paste.

Todd Quick - 3
Nate Gardner - 1
Mike Chin - 1
Kristen Meiss - 1
Rachel Taylor - 1
Merideth Maclain - 1
Mark Agosta - 1
Dan Press - 1

Funniest Answer: Merideth MacLain
It is too bad I didn't have any of those speakers at my Commencement in 2001. Yeah thanks SU...we were supposed to have Robin Williams...that is what one of the commencement speaker committee members told me and who did we have...oh wait I can't seem to remember the name of the lame astronaut that graduated from SU in 1979...the year that most of us were born...that is all I remember...because the speech left such a huge impression on my freshly graduated mind. Who spoke at commencements to follow...let's see...Former Mayor Rudy Guiliani, Former President Clinton, Claire Huxtable from The Cosby Show's Phylicia Rashad, Jane Goodall and Billy Joel. Sing me a song you're the piano man freakin' Billy Joel...correct me if I am wrong sang at commencement.

Valiant Effort: Jenn Pedde
For answering incorrectly, but sending us this awesome reference to Commencement 2004.

Blood Alcohol Counts (BAC) from the last time Melissa took a road trip with her friends and got pulled over and had to take breathalizer tests. (Which is also why she knows where everyone McDonald's on the thruway is - lots of potty breaks for her overly full bladder.)

Google fun

I'm sure you've all done this before:

You're sitting at work wondering what to do and you start typing your name into google.com. Depending on what you've accomplished in your short but sweet lifetime, you might actually get a link to something that mentions you and not some famous historian from NYU or Beijing. After you've gotten bored tying in all versions of your name, you go to your family and friends'. The next step is to type in people you've dated, hoping, of course, to find that they've since been arrested for having sex with underage hookers. When this fails, you move to anyone else you can think of. Old teacher, bosses, High School enemies, Father Smith from The Holy Baptist Church of New England, etc...

Last week, Melissa e-mailed Dana Wise and I regarding one of these common endeavors. She was doing research and ended up typing Dr. Tagg's name into Wikipedia. (Try it...it's hilarious if you know Dr. Tagg) Dana and I proceeded to type in everyone we knew and had some fun exchanging e-mails between the 3 of us for an afternoon.

Well, Dana just informed me that she wasn't quite done, and started typing WS players into google. One of you is lucky enough to have your name match 3 out of your first 6 results to this fantastic blog! Is it you? Google it up and find out...

Game #5 Results

Game #5 Answer: NYS Thruway Rest Stops...with a McDonald's

Game #5 Results:

Mark Agosta - 3

Funniest Answer: Dan Press
Of course there's always the possibility it's a Mandarin-related answer so it could be something like places the Mandarins stopped for food and/or gas on their way to sing in New York City, stopping in Ontario and Port Byron, NY before realizing they were going in the wrong direction.

Valiant Effort: Smiley-face stickers go out to: Kristen Meiss, Nate Gardner, Beth Handy, Larissa DeMarco, John Molesky, Nicole Sullivan, Dan Press, Todd Quick, Courtney Chiavara, and Mike Chin...aka everyone that guessed NYS Thruway Rest Stops/Travel Plazas, but neglected to take it that one step further.

Total Points:
Mark Agosta - 8
Kristen Meiss - 6
Nate Gardner - 6 (3 points for sending us a game we couldn't answer)
Nicole Sullivan - 4
Dan Press - 4 (1 point for sending us a game we guessed correctly but loved so much we're using it for Game #6)

Booth Hall Throwback

Jenn Pedde just asked me whatever happened to Kenny Chung...which reminded me that I never posted his response to Game #1. My rationale is that he IMd it instead of emailing...but actually, I just forgot about it. But since it's funny, I'm reposting it here.

-Rashy Fizzle

CHungO 07: instead of emailing i'm just going to email you every week
CHungO 07: the answer to this week is pilgrims that pedde hangs out with when she goes "off the band wagon."
CHungO 07: she clearly can't hang out with you guys or else she'll be peer pressured into drinking.
CHungO 07: hope all is well
