Game #5 Results

Game #5 Answer: NYS Thruway Rest Stops...with a McDonald's

Game #5 Results:

Mark Agosta - 3

Funniest Answer: Dan Press
Of course there's always the possibility it's a Mandarin-related answer so it could be something like places the Mandarins stopped for food and/or gas on their way to sing in New York City, stopping in Ontario and Port Byron, NY before realizing they were going in the wrong direction.

Valiant Effort: Smiley-face stickers go out to: Kristen Meiss, Nate Gardner, Beth Handy, Larissa DeMarco, John Molesky, Nicole Sullivan, Dan Press, Todd Quick, Courtney Chiavara, and Mike Chin...aka everyone that guessed NYS Thruway Rest Stops/Travel Plazas, but neglected to take it that one step further.

Total Points:
Mark Agosta - 8
Kristen Meiss - 6
Nate Gardner - 6 (3 points for sending us a game we couldn't answer)
Nicole Sullivan - 4
Dan Press - 4 (1 point for sending us a game we guessed correctly but loved so much we're using it for Game #6)

Dana Wise - 3

Answer: Random Towns in New York State which when after connecting the dots, spell "T-$" on a map.

My official answer, with help from google, is that all of these places have Public Libraries with < $20 Per Capita in local public support. i KNOW that this is the right answer.

Editor's Note: Unfortunately, that was not the answer we were looking for. Nice research, though! (Applause)

I find your game fun, and have no idea what this recent post is relating to. I also don't really feel like sending an email. So, for Game #5, I'm going to say the names of Sanjaya's hair-dos.

Dan Press:

It's possible they could be hometowns of 9 of the Mandarins... but what are the odds having an entire group of quality female vocalists from upstate New York? That's got to be like 100 to 1....

Melissa's Response to Dan:

Dan, your answer intrigued me, so I did a little research to see if that was, in fact, a valid response. Yes, many Mandarins have hailed from Upstate New York. However, there is no clear cut WS-style answer to describe that fact. I came very close to "Mandarins From New York Who Sang With Melissa and Tracy", but even counting the two of us, I only came up with 8. Since I was in the group an extra 2 years, I have 5 more Mandarins to add to the list, but that's stretching it a bit.

At any rate, here's a list of the Mandarins the WS staff sang with over the years, just to prove that hotness really does radiate along the NYS Thruway.

Merideth Maclain - Whitesboro
Katrine (Viscio) Dickau - Knox
Melissa Rashford - Rome
Tracy Helf - Albany
Emily Santilli - Amherst
Courtney Chiavara - Camillus
Betsy Gwin - Knox
Steph Springer - Ballston Spa
Taylor Hornstein - DeWitt
Abby Drumm - Clinton
Amy Zubieta - Syracuse
Tacie Van Liew - Cortland
Lilly Testa - Penfield

I want a recount... I don't even know what a Thruway is.

You know, it's very lonely at the top. With that said, if anyone actually knocks me off this sandpile, I will pay you to lose. Maybe I did that already. Maybe Kristen Meiss is sitting in her diamond-encrusted lawn chair chugging bottles of Miller High Life right now. Maybe I'll get hit by a rt.55 city bus tomorrow for being a cocky prick. Maybe. I have a lot at stake here, so maybe Nate Gardner will think twice before he answers too quickly, lest he finally notices my tent in his backyard, thirty seconds before a dead mackerel comes soaring at his skull. It's a very smelly fish Nate. Now to go "bribe" the judge.

That Dan Press has given some funny answers. How come you don't give points for comedy?
